Three-Story Renovation of a 1960s Home with an Indoor Pool

Studio A3 and A3 Byggprojekt had previously helped this family with the interior design and complete renovation of another home. When the family had grown and bought a new house, they trusted us once again to help them create their dream home. The project included a new layout on two of the floors to add more bedrooms, a spa area by the indoor pool, and more bathrooms. We handled all the material selections and chose additional furniture and lighting. We reused most of the furniture, lamps, and décor they had bought for their previous home and added new pieces where needed.

On the entry level, we changed the layout around the hallway to create more storage and a larger bathroom. We made sure to keep the beautiful limestone floor in the entryway. We also added a home gym, a bedroom, a separate TV room, a laundry room with a laundry chute from the floor above, and a spa area with a bathroom and sauna next to the indoor pool. The pool was refinished with new surfaces. Most of the staircase that runs through the entire house was kept. We kept the brass balusters and the handrail and added new black metal details. In the basement, the surfaces were renovated, and there's room for a garage, a workshop, a pantry, and a mudroom.

On the second floor, we installed new herringbone parquet that was sanded and finished to match the existing parquet in the living room. The existing dark brick fireplace was plastered and painted. All the walls were painted or wallpapered, a new kitchen was installed, and we put wall-to-wall carpet in the bedrooms. We adjusted the layout to add another bedroom, and we removed a staircase that led up to the then unfinished attic and created a hobby room in its place. We also changed the layout to create two separate bathrooms.

The attic was finished and now has a guest bedroom and bathroom. The long hallway between them became a library for the family's many books and games, along with a home office.

Leather, wood, and different shades of green, combined with retro furniture, make this lovely 1960s house a beautiful modern home that both we and our clients are very happy with.
